This innovative library is made possible in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Literacy Zone — Created by Woodlands Junior School in the UK, Literacy Zone offers online literacy games and activities to help children improve spelling, grammar, punctuation, and writing skills. You'll find 24 kid-tested themes heroes and superheroes, dinosaurs, detectives, the night sky, music…dozens of carefully chosen fiction and nonfiction books, hands-on activities, writing ideas, apps and websites to deepen the learning. The above activity can also be used for children to: illustrate their favourite words. Just assemble everything into a two-gallon zip top bag, and they're ready to go! Overview Workshop: The ELIA workshop is designed to give early learning providers and teachers a basic understanding of the Six Early Literacy Skills, easy ways to incorporate early literacy into the classroom environment, why access to books is so critically important for young children, and how the public library can help support early learning in their centers, classrooms, and home sites.
